Laboratory of Applied Biochemistry focuses on the application of biochemical methods in various scientific fields. We apply biochemical, molecular biological, transcriptomic, genomic, proteomic techniques for the study glycobiology of ticks and tick-borne pathogens, tick-host-pathogen interactions, nanostructured surface functionalization, and the study of fish development.

The Laboratory of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry is engaged in the development of analytical methods and their subsequent use for the analysis of water, soil, cigarette butts, plant materials, extracts from animal faeces and selected substances in blood, serum and urine samples. Environmentally oriented research is focused on the fate of substances in the environment (e.g. organic pollutants from cigarette butts) and the photodegradation of widely prescribed drugs under light conditions relevant to natural surface waters and subsequent toxicity tests of photoproduct mixtures.
Assoc. Prof. Šárka Klementová – environmental photochemistry + toxicology
Dr. Pavla Fojtíková – organic pollutants and toxicology, analytical chemistry
Dr. David Kahoun – analytical chemistry
Karel Hořejší - analytical chemistry, specialisation in lipidomics (PhD student)
Martina Poncarová – study programme of Biochemistry, specialisation in environmental photochemistry + toxicology (PhD student)
Pavla Petráňová – study programme of Biochemistry, specialisation in environmental photochemistry + toxicology (PhD student)
Prof. Jan Tříska – analytical chemistry (external consultant from Global Change Research Institute of Czech Academy of Sciences)
The research includes Molecular simulations and modeling, Ab initio calculations od biological systems etc.
Centre of excellence “Mechanisms and dynamics of macromolecular complexes” (Macrocomplex) is an interdisciplinary research consortium of the Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic.

Our research group is taking the advantage of living on the border in between biology and physics. We are mostly focused on single-molecule research and we are currently looking for motivated students of all degrees!
Centre of Photosynthetic Research is a joint interdisciplinary research facility of Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics. The centre studies biochemical, biophysical and structural biological aspects of photosynthesis, especially light harvesting.
Members of the Photosynthetic research centre from Department of Chemistry:
RNDr. Radek Litvín, Ph.D.
RNDr. David Bína, Ph.D.
prof. RNDr. František Vácha, Ph.D.
Centre of Biomolecular Structure Research joins several laboratories of the Faculty of Science:
Laboratory of Structural Chemistry
Laboratory of Preparative Biochemistry
Laboratory of NMR - joint facility with RERI JKU Linz, Austria
Laboratory of Electron Tomography - joint facility with Biology Centre ASCR
