Test Contents
The TOEIC Listening and Reading exam is a test of English for the Working Environment and consists of two parts.
Before the examination, it is highly recommended that the candidates study the document TOEIC L+R Examinee Handbook available on this page in the section „Individual Preparation“.
Listening
The Listening section assesses how well test takers understand spoken English. In this section, test takers listen to short passages in English and answer a variety of questions. It consists of four parts and 100 test questions, and lasts 45 minutes:
Reading
The Reading Comprehension section measures how well test takers understand written English. In this section, test takers read materials and answer questions at their own pace. Passages use real-world workplace conversations. The test consists of three parts and 100 test questions, and it lasts 75 minutes:
We offer the TOEIC Listening and Reading Examination in two programmes. The first of them, TOEIC with Photo (Public Programme), leads to obtaining a so-called score report, which is a confirmation of the achieved result and the achieved language level. This confirmation is accompanied by a photograph and has international validity. In case of interest, it is possible to order a decorative certificate, which, however, is not necessary to prove your language level.
Within the so-called Institutional Programme, students automatically receive the Score Report. Other services, like Express Scoring, are not available. The Score Report is only valid within the institution that administers the examination (in our case the University of South Bohemia). However, there are a number of organizations that recognise these documents.
Other differences between the two programmes are in the price and in some organisational aspects of the administration of the examination. The contents of the tests do not differ.
Why are TOEIC® test scores valid for two years?
Students who pass the examination gain an international certificate on which their photograph appears.
It is necessary to register and pay the examination fee by the respective date (see above) for all exam dates.
The minimum number of participants required for the test to take place is three.
Cancellation conditions:
The TOEIC L+R examination is valid only within the administrating institute (in our case University of South Bohemia). The student receives information concerning points score only and may purchase a certificate with institutional validity / score report. Many employers and educational institutes do, however, accept these results as valid.
The dates of the examination are to be found in the Calendar section of the Department homepage. Remember to register and pay the fee by the date provided. The candidates will receive the exact time and place of the test sessiion one week before the start of the examination.
